WATCH: UK PM invents new word in joke aimed at opposition

WATCH: Cameron takes aim at the shadow chancellor during a debate in a packed House of Commons.

TORONTO – British Prime Minister David Cameron was left a wee bit embarrassed after using a word that doesn’t exist in a jab aimed at an opposition member.

While debating in the House of Commons Wednesday, Cameron took aim at Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls.

“The shadow chancellor said he would be tough on the deficit and tough on the causes of the deficit. He is one of the causes of the deficit,” announced Cameron. “I think we’ve all found one of the first ever examples of political masosadism“.

The House of Commons immediately roared with laughter.

“We all knew what the Prime Minister meant,” yelled speaker John Bercow.

But members of the House wouldn’t let Cameron off the hook and, moments later, the Prime Minister corrected himself.

Balls responded by making a gesture indicating the cracking of a whip.

Almost instantly, #masosadism started trending on social media and the jokes ensued.

According to the Urban Dictionary, a masosadist is defined as “A person who derives pain out of being humiliated or hurt, but also derives pain from inflicting pain on another being. A person who has more tendencies towards masochism, but with underlying tones of sadism.”

The jury is still out on whether or not masosadism is, in fact, a real word.
