WATCH: Oliver thief goes to great heights for cash

OLIVER, B.C. — Ranjit Dhillon was surprised to get a call from his alarm company Saturday morning, alerting him that his bottle depot had been broken into. But when he arrived, he was even more stunned to learn how the culprit got in. Thanks to security cameras that were rolling, Dhillon got to see the crime unfold. He says the suspect reminded him of Tom Cruise from Mission impossible because instead of smashing a window or breaking a door, the man dismantled the skylight and scaled down a rope.

“The way he came down, it looks like they have experience,” he says.

The thief made off with nearly $1,300 cash. Dhillon says this significant amount will affect his family’s holiday season.

“I feel terrible,” he says. “We’re not going to spend that much this year, probably less.”

Dhillon doesn’t under why someone would go to such lengths to steal from the till.

“It was so slippery [on the roof], like all icy. I don’t know how they did it.”

He isn’t hopeful that he will see the money again, but says he will learn from this experience and never leave cash in the till overnight.
