REGINA – It’s a designation that no community wants, but in 2013 Regina led the country in homicide rates per capita.
Statistics Canada released the homicide rates for 2013 Monday, and The Queen City led the nation averaging 3.84 homicides per 100,000 people.
Winnipeg came in second at 3.24, followed by Thunder Bay at 2.46. Edmonton was at 2.09 and Hamilton rounded out the top five averaging 2.904 homicides per 100,000. Saskatoon was tenth with 1.67.
Manitoba had the highest homicide rates among the provinces, averaging 3.87 homicides per 100,000, with Saskatchewan coming in second at 2.71, followed by Alberta at 2.04.
