Manitoba wakes up to extreme cold Monday morning

WINNIPEG – West-central Manitoba is under an extreme weather alert as Arctic air settles over the province Monday morning.

The Dauphin, Roblin, Winnipegosis, Minnedosa, Neepawa, Russell, Riding Mountain National Park, Swan River, Duck Mountain and Porcupine Provincial Forest faced -42 wind chills this morning, Environment Canada warned.

Nearby regions experienced wind chills of -35 to -38.

Winnipeg at 7 a.m. was at -26 C with a wind chill that made it feel like -38. The high is forecast to reach -17 C but with wind increasing to 40 kilometres per hour gusting to 60 km/h, wind chills are expected to remain near -38.

Environment Canada advises residents to make sure they wear appropriate clothing.
