SASKATOON – The annual Festival of Trees wrapped up Saturday at the Western Development Museum, drawing more than 20,000 people of all ages through the week. This year’s theme was ‘A Fairytale Christmas.’

A gingerbread house display also attracted crowds – it featured a Riderville-themed gingerbread house and some impressive castles. A Riderville pastry was sold for $225 and one of the gingerbread castles sold for $600.

“We’re hoping to raise $200,000 that will go to our beneficiary, which is Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation,” said Cheyenne Steffen, Festival of Trees executive officer.

“The money is designated for breast health and for MS research so I’m really hoping we raise that amount – we won’t know for a few weeks until everything is calculated and finalized.”

Organizers say over 300 volunteers helped run the event.
