Winnipeg police warn drivers to clear vehicles

WINNIPEG – With snow falling and temperatures fluctuating, driving conditions are becoming increasingly dangerous.

“No one should be operating a vehicle when you have limited visibility,” said Const. Jason Michalyshen of the Winnipeg Police Service.

The Winnipeg police department is advising drivers to defrost and scrape their windows and make sure their license plates are easy to see through.

If they are not properly cleared, limited visibility while driving could result in a fine of roughly $100.

“We don’t want that necessarily to be the only thing people are thinking about,” said Michalyshen. “Worrying about harming yourself, harming the other people in that vehicle or the other people out on the roadway, that’s what this is about.”

With temperatures expected to rise this week, the melting snow could cause slippery driving conditions. One more reason to slow down and take extra precautions while on the roads, according to police.
