Missing Saskatchewan man travelling back from U.S.

UPDATE: Missing Saskatchewan trucker found dead by police in Nebraska

MILESTONE, Sask. – Mounties are asking for the public’s help in locating a missing Saskatchewan man, who was last seen in the United States. Family are concerned for the well-being of Claybourne Ursu, 56, who is from the Avonlea, Sask. area.

Ursu last made contact with his employer at 11 p.m. on Nov. 25 after arriving at Crete, Neb. to pick up a load with a tractor-trailer vehicle. Family say they have not heard from Ursu and that this is out of character for Ursu. He typically speaks to them daily.

RCMP say Ursu or the vehicle have not re-entered Canada. Canada Border Services Agency and State Highway Patrols in Colorado, South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska and Montana are assisting with the search.

The missing man’s route may have been the following:

  • Leaving Crete, Nebraska travelling north on Highway 81
  • To Interstate 90, west past Mitchell, South Dakota to Highway 281
  • North on Highway 281 to Jamestown, North Dakota
  • Then on Highway 52 to Minot, North Dakota and continue through the North Portal Border Crossing to end up in Lethbridge, Alta.

Ursu is described as six-feet tall, 165 pounds, with brown eyes and grey hair. He may also have a moustache.

He drives a maroon 2006 Western Star tractor unit pulling a pneumatic aluminum belly (bottom) dump with “NEEDER TRANSPORT” written on the side. It has Saskatchewan licence plate 023 HRQ.
