WATCH: Metro Vancouver residents are dealing with the first snowfall of the season. And as Jill Bennett reports, the wild weather is not only causing problems on roads.
Vancouver — It was a dangerous day on B.C. roads, with multiple accidents and road closures due to snow and ice.
Early this morning, Highway 99 southbound at Highway 91 in Delta was closed because of an accident and icy conditions. The eastbound off-ramp at Highway 1 and United Boulevard was also shut down due to black ice and collisions.
A serious accident at Highway 1 and Gaglardi Way temporarily shut down the highway eastbound. Traffic was seriously backed up in the area for hours.
In Burnaby, eight vehicles crashed at Parker Street and Douglas Road. There were no serious injuries, but the City was called out to de-ice this particular stretch of road.
And a 13-year-old girl is currently at Children’s Hospital, after she was struck by two cars while crossing West Third between Lonsdale and Chesterfield in North Vancouver. The extent of her injuries are not known at this time.
Authorities are asking motorists to drive slowly and safely, and to exercise extra precautions in this winter weather.
