ABOVE: How one truck driver’s misfortune turned into a “Thanksgiving Miracle” for a Texas family
Thanksgiving: A time to gather with family, count your blessings, and eat road kill that just came crashing through a truck driver’s windshield.
Okay, that last one isn’t usually a part of the Thanksgiving tradition. But trucker Kameron Schrader found a unique way to turn his Thanksgiving frown upside down after a wild turkey came crashing through his front windscreen – and a local family asked if they could keep it.
Schrader was driving his Peterbilt Lubbock wrecker truck over a bridge Thursday near Abilene, Texas, when an unusually large wild turkey came crashing through his front windscreen.
“I just had to get the truck stopped and whatever it was off of my lap.” Schrader told KCBD News in Texas.
“By the time I got stopped, I realized it was a big old turkey, and then kind of started thinking about it being Thanksgiving and it was kind of ironic.”
As he cleaned the broken glass from inside his cab and wondered what to do with the 30-pound bird, an even stranger occurrence took place.
“They were pretty excited about it.”
And suddenly, what could have been a dangerous situation for Schrader turned into a strange tale of Thanksgiving generosity.
“Everybody has asked if I was okay, and then after that just that it was hysterical. What are the odds of hitting a big ole turkey on Thanksgiving?”
