Lloydminster company fined after worker falls off ladder

LLOYDMINSTER, Sask. – A Lloydminster, Sask. company has been fined after a worker was seriously injured in a workplace accident last year.

Frontier Glass & Door was charged with failing to ensure a portable ladder was secured against accidental movement after the accident on Oct. 16, 2013 when the worker slipped and fell off the ladder.

The company pleaded guilty in Lloydminster court on Nov. 13 to violating the Occupational Health and Safety regulation and was fined $2,000 with an $800 surcharge. Two other charges against the company were withdrawn.

In a separate incident, three men pleaded guilty in Yorkton court for failing to use a fall protection system where a worker could fall three or more metres.

Chris Davidson of Canora and Kyle Shumay and Austin Boychuk from Yorkton were charged after a complaint-driven workplace inspection on Aug. 1, 2012. An inspector saw men working on a roof at a Yorkton worksite without a fall protection system.

The three were each fined $60 with a $40 surcharge.
