SASKATOON – A man is recovering from dog bites and four people are facing numerous charges after they attempted to evade Saskatoon police early Wednesday morning. It started around 2 a.m. when a patrol officer spotted a suspicious SUV being driven in a dangerous manner in the southeast area of the city.
While following the vehicle at a safe distance, the officer notified other units to assist in stopping the SUV. It was found running and abandoned in an alley in the 2200-block of Broadway Avenue. A search of the vehicle turned up several stolen firearms.
Four people, two men aged 23 and 29, a 17-year-old male and a 17-year-old female, were arrested nearby. The 23-year-old man was found by a police dog hiding under a deck. He is charged with assaulting the canine officer and was treated for dog bite injuries.
The four are facing approximately 70 charges including possession of a stolen property, firearm violations, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and evading police.
They are scheduled to appear before a justice of the peace Wednesday evening. Their names have not been released.
