Chance of snow Friday in Lower Mainland

VANCOUVER – Winter has definitely arrived in many parts of B.C.

The Okanagan got its first significant snowfall of the season, which left many without power Wednesday and Thursday.

Global BC meteorologist Mark Madryga says a moist Pacific front that gave record-high temperatures to Vancouver on Thursday will sweep through Friday morning. Some sunny periods and drier air will follow for Friday afternoon but much colder Arctic air is surging southwards through the Fraser Canyon and another branch of rapid cooling is headed for the Okanagan.

In the Fraser Valley, blustery and cold Arctic winds will develop later Friday afternoon, with a high chance of flurries for the Lower Mainland Friday night. In Metro Vancouver, there may be some accumulations in flurries later tonight through early Saturday before the clear and colder Arctic air settles in for the majority of the weekend.
