Severe weather scales back recovery efforts for missing people

Severe winter conditions have scaled back recovery efforts for two missing southern Albertan’s in Montana.

The Glacier County Sheriff’s office confirmed Tuesday night they had recovered the body of 63-year old Lethbridge-area man Kazuhiko Hayashizaki.  The search continues for 58-year old Claresholm man Danny Heyland and 75-year old Japanese national Fuki Nishibayashi from Lethbridge.

However, teams in and on the lake have had to suspend efforts due to extreme weather conditions. The Sheriff’s office said the water is dangerous and they are concerned about their boats capsizing.  Ground crews continue to monitor around the lake shore.

Hayashizaki, Heyland and Fuki were last seen on Saturday, and the Sherriff’s office said there is evidence to suggest they either went through the ice, or were blown to open water late Saturday morning.

Police have confirmed that foul play was not involved.

Recovery teams will resume to search the lake once the weather improves. The Sherriff’s office said they will continue to search for the missing two until they are found.
