WATCH: Only 56 per cent of health care workers vaccinated ahead of deadline

WATCH: A little more than half of Vancouver Coastal Health workers have been vaccinated for the flu. Linda Aylesworth reports.

Healthcare workers for Vancouver Coastal Health are required to get a flu shot or wear a mask while on the job.

But with workers facing a December 1 deadline to get the flu shot, only a little more than half have followed through.

Healthcare workers who are not immunized by the deadline have to start wearing a mask when in a patient care location.

So far, 56 per cent of workers have been immunized and the number is expected to rise to at least 80 per cent in the next few days.

People who anticipate visiting their loved ones in a long-term care facility or hospital are often eligible for a free flu vaccine and are encouraged to get immunized.
