Councillor not giving up on back lane windrow removal

WINNIPEG – The Chair of Winnipeg’s Public Works committee says there has to be some way the city can do more to clear snow from windrows in back lanes.

St. Norbert councillor Janice Lukes tells 680 CJOB she wants city staff to look at what is working in other cities.

“Many other cities have a service they provide to 65-plus folks and to people who have accessibility challenges. Some have user fees per season while some don’t.”

Plows don’t clear windrows right now: a report from city staff this week says it would be too expensive for city crews to do the work homeowners are expected to do.

Lukes says she’s asked for another report on this. She says it may not be ready in time for changes this winter but a pilot project may be possible.
