‘Famous’ Lower Mainland dog suffering from liver failure

VANCOUVER – George is well-known around the Lower Mainland. Many delighted viewers have snapped a photo of him in his owner’s truck, with his arm hanging out the window, looking like he is going on a relaxing ride.

A photo of him even won Global BC‘s Weather Window contest a few weeks ago.

But to his owners Dan Parker and Donna Anthony, he is just their beloved dog George and he is sick.

The soon-to-be seven-year-old Dogue de Bordeaux has been at numerous veterinary clinics since he stopped eating a few weeks ago.

Anthony’s grandmother had passed away so when she went back east for the funeral Parker became concerned George was not eating very much. “My boyfriend thought he just missed me,” says Anthony. “But I came home and I’m like ‘there’s something wrong’.”

George was admitted to Hastings Veterinary Hospital in Burnaby on Nov. 16 and Anthony says on Nov. 21 he started to need round-the-clock care. Now he is at Boundary Bay Hospital in Langley and the vet bills are piling up.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“I’ve been doing nothing but driving, and I work everyday,” says Anthony.

George is now undergoing more testing to find out why his liver is failing. Anthony says he may have liver cancer but more tests need to be done.

They have set up a GoFundMe page to try and raise some money to help with the costs of treatment for George.

“Everything I do reminds me of George,” says Anthony. “If Dan is having a bad day, he takes him for a ride and it makes people happy, which puts him in a better mood.”
