EDMONTON – Covenant Health is rolling out some significant staff changes at three Edmonton area senior facilities.

The changes are being made to how the agency delivers long-term care. They will affect 650 staff members.

Staff will be realigned at Youville Home, the Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre and St. Joseph’s Auxiliary Hospital. The move will result in five full-time equivalent job losses, but hundreds of LPNs, health care aides, and therapeutic staff will be assigned to different shifts or positions.

Covenant Health says the rearrangement of staff roles and shifting is to provide more assistance at peak care times.

“What we are trying to achieve through this is ensuring that at the times where they have high care needs, that we have both the right mix of staff and the right number of staff to meet their needs,” says Scott Baerg, a senior operating officer with Covenant Health. “It is really important that we do that because their needs have changed over time.”
