TORONTO – Watch how quickly this situation goes from bad, to worse, to worse still.

A woman being pursued by police in Kansas City, Missouri Thursday morning lost control of her white SUV, causing it to crash into a building at 18th and Oak Street.

The impact caused the front of the building to come crashing down on top of both the woman’s car, and the street.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

According to Kansas City Police, the incident started when the woman’s white SUV – which had previously been reported as stolen – was spotted by officers earlier that morning.

Police then gave chase after they spotted her running a stop sign, and traveling almost 130 kilometres an hour down city streets.

The woman struck a fire hydrant before losing control completely and crashing into the building around 10:30 am Thursday morning.

“It was like a bomb. Like boom,” Kansas City resident Cynthia Bell told KSHB News. “If it could shake the ground, it would have been because everything collapsed.”

Amazingly, no one was killed or even seriously injured in the building collapse. Even the woman, seemingly pinned under the rubble of the building she hit, escaped with non-life threatening injuries.

Building owner Chris Willsey said hearing of the building’s collapse was bad news on a number of levels.

“Definitely not the call you want to get,” Willsey told KSHB. “I’ve been trying to sell the place and wish I would have before this happened.”
