Further investigation warranted in crash that killed five-year-old boy

WATCH: Anger is building over a case involving a Quebec police officer who was travelling well over the speed limit when his unmarked car was involved in a crash that led to the death of a 5-year-old boy. Many were shocked when the father, and not the officer, was blamed for the crash. Mike Armstrong reports.

QUEBEC – In a surprise move, the Crown Prosecutor’s Office (DPCP) has demanded further investigation into the fatal Feb. 13 crash that left a five-year-old boy dead in St-Hubert.

The child was riding in a vehicle that was struck by an unmarked police car driven by a Sûreté Du Québec (SQ) officer.

According to reports, the police officer’s car was going at more than 120 kilometres an hour in a 50 kilometres an hour zone.

In a press conference on Friday, spokesperson Rene Verret from the DPCP, had even suggested the boy’s father, who was driving the car, was  partly to blame for the crash when he attempted to make a left-hand turn from Gaetan-Boucher boulevard onto Davis boulevard.

“He decided to take a chance and cross anyway, he decided to take a risk,” says Verret.
