EDMONTON – A 27-year-old man was killed early Saturday morning in a collision in west Edmonton.

Police were called to the area of 132 Avenue and 127 Street around 4:30 a.m.

Officers say a Pontiac Grand Prix was heading west on 132 Avenue when it entered the intersection on a red light. It was speeding at the time, police said. As it was going through the intersection, the Grand Prix hit a Nissan Sentra, which was heading north on 127 Street.

Police say both vehicles spun out of control and the Grand Prix hit a large wooden post in the northwest corner of the intersection.

The 27-year-old man driving the Grand Prix was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say he was not wearing a seatbelt.

The 36-year-old man driving the Sentra was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say the Grand Prix was recently stolen from the area. Officers believe speed was a factor in the collision.
