No work permit requested for dismantled wall that killed worker

CALGARY – Family members and friends brought flowers to the work site where a 60-year-old man was killed Thursday afternoon.

The city confirms no work permits were requested or pulled for the dismantling of a concrete wall in the 600 block of 28thStreet N.E..

Emergency crews were called to scene just after 1 p.m. after the wall collapsed and crushed the victim.

Occupational Health and Safety has been called in to investigate. They confirm the victim had been working for Blue Collar Temps, a temporary work agency that had been contracted by NorCal Group.

The city is also looking into the scope of the work and whether the project should have included safety plans or precautions to protect the public from falling debris.

“Right now we’ve issued a stop work [order] for any other work that had to be undertaken,” says Marco Civatrese, Calgary’s Chief Building Inspector.
