Another suspicious fire in Vernon

VERNON – RCMP are now investigating after a large pile of tires went up in flames in Vernon Thursday evening.   The Vernon fire department was called out to the parking lot at Kal Tire Place at 7:30 p.m. When crews arrived, they discovered an aggressive  fire with large flames.  It took about an hour to put the blaze out.

Deputy Chief Lawrie Skolrood says the tires were piled up on a flatbed trailer.  They’re stored in the parking lot and used by the local go-kart club.

Skolrood says the fire is being treated as arson.  There have been more than 20 suspected arson fires in and around the city since this past spring.  No word yet if this latest blaze is connected to that string of fires.
