Aggressive drivers in Sask. slapped with 2,200 tickets in October

REGINA – Saskatchewan police issued almost 2,400 tickets in October during a traffic safety spotlight targeting aggressive motorists province-wide.

According to Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) preliminary statistics, aggressive driving resulted in 63 deaths in the province last year.

Broken down over the month, there were 2,225 tickets for aggressive driving/speeding, 93 tickets for aggressive driving/speeding in school zones, 43 for travelling 35 km/h over the speed limit, six for stunting and one for passing a police vehicle.

In addition, there were also 361 tickets for cellphone use, 331 seatbelt violations and 107 impaired driving offences in October.

SGI is reminding motorists there are tougher penalties and immediate vehicle seizures in effect for some speeding offences.

For November’s spotlight, police are on the lookout for people driving too fast for winter road conditions.
