TORONTO — Nightclub impresario Rande Gerber — husband of supermodel Cindy Crawford — was in Toronto on Monday hoping to convince Canadians to drink more tequila.

“My doctor said, ‘If you’re going to drink as much as you do, stick to tequila,'” said Gerber, who created Casamigos Tequila with his best buddy George Clooney and businessman Michael Meldman.

“George and I were drinking a lot of tequila when we were in Mexico and we decided to start this company,” he explained during an appearance on Global Toronto’s News at Noon. “Really just for ourselves. We never thought about selling it to the public.”

Named for his home in Mexico, Casamigos Tequila sells for about $60.

Gerber, 52, said the simple design of the bottle is intentional.

“We put our money inside the bottle,” he said. “The process is a long process and a little bit complicated so it’s pretty expensive.”

Gerber said Casamigos is ideal for margaritas but he prefers to drink it on the rocks.

Of course, there was plenty of the tequila flowing at Clooney’s recent wedding, where Gerber served as best man.

“It was a fun wedding,” he recalled. “It was three days in Venice and it was fantastic. Everyone had a great time.”

Gerber said he and Crawford — and their children Kaia and Presley — also have a great time every summer in Canada. The family has a home on Lake Muskoka, a little more than two hours north of Toronto.

“We have a lot of friends who live here,” Gerber said.
