Santa Claus parade draws thousands despite cold temperatures

REGINA – Dipping temperatures resulted in fewer floats at Sunday’s Santa Claus Parade, though the thousands of participants and spectators had the right to remain cheerful.

“This is one of the best events of the year for us, and I enjoy it as well,” said Regina Police Chief Troy Hagen as he walked down Albert Street handing out candy canes.

The parade started at 1 p.m. near Dr. Martin LeBoldus High School and ended at Southland Mall.

“We have all of our rainbow boxes and our flags and whatnot so we’re ready to cheer it on Pride style,” said Jesse Ireland, the co-chair of Queen City Pride.

The organization participated in the parade for the first time ever. Its float was made up of different colour presents stacked in a small trailer.
