TORONTO — Brooke Shields has revealed she felt like her mother Teri was with her when she lost her virginity to Dean Cain.

“Even when Mom wasn’t around, I felt as if she was watching,” Shields wrote in her memoir, There Was a Little Girl.

The actress said she first had sex when she was 22 and attending Princeton University — where Cain was also a student. But her relationship with her mom made the experience awkward and emotional.

“Afterwards I got so overwhelmed that I jumped out of my bed. I actually kind of tumbled off it and started running,” she wrote. “I was buck naked streaking down a hallway.

“Dean leapt up and ran after me with the comforter in his arms. He hugged me tight and asked me where I was going. I was afraid I was leaving my mother. I didn’t know where I began and where my mother ended and that meant I didn’t know how to fit Dean in.”

Cain, 48, went on to an acting career of his own, including a breakout role in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

Despite taking a number of provocative roles — including sexually-charged Pretty Baby, The Blue Lagoon and Endless Love — Shields believes her mother was trying to keep her pure for as long as possible, which made her “terrified of physical contact with boys.”

Shields said Teri (who passed away in 2012) closely monitored her relationship with Cain.

“He was incredibly and painfully patient with me regarding sex,” she said. “We were always holding hands and trying to find ways to be alone and kiss, but poor guy, I made him wait and wait and my mom kept track.”

Shields, now 49, also wrote about her relationship with Michael Jackson.

“We just felt safe with each other,” she explained. “I didn’t want anything from him. We watched movies and ate candy and laughed at the craziness around us.”

Shields said their relationship was strictly platonic.

“We loved each other but it was not at all romantic,” she said. “He was like a little kid who asked questions about dating. Nobody was nurturing him through that stuff. He was terrified.”
