Edmonton’s chief meteorologist Nicola Crosbie says normal temperatures for this time of year are -1°C for a high and -10°C for a low.

It looks like those won’t be returning until Sunday, when a warmer westerly flow is expected to take over and bring temperatures back to the -5°C range.

As for what caused this cold spell? Crosbie says it was an Arctic airmass that hit our region last Saturday.

“These air masses are very large and heavy, they usually take up residence for seven to 10 days” she said.
