Gun scare at Canada Post Processing Centre prompts lockdown

The Canada Post Processing Centre in northeast Calgary was put into lockdown Wednesday afternoon after a man outside the building was seen with a handgun.

Calgary police were alerted at about 2:20 p.m., and sent a tactical team and canine unit to the centre at the 11-hundred block of 49th Ave N.E.

Police said they saw a man wandering erratically in the parking lot.

As a precaution, both the building and parking lot were put into lockdown.

Police told Global News officers challenged the man and took him into custody at around 2:48 – nearly 30 minutes after the incident began.

A suicide note and a .45 caliber handgun were found in the man’s vehicle.

There were no injuries, and the man remains in police custody while the investigation continues.
