WATCH: Young elephant fends off pride of lions

TORONTO – A baby elephant managed to survive an attack by 14 female lions in Zambia.

The attack happened near Norman Carr Safaris’ Chinzombo Camp, when the baby elephant became separated from its herd.

Video shows the lone elephant kicking and using its trunk in an attempt to defend itself.

At one point in the video, two large cats can be seen on the elephant’s back while others attacked its legs.

“Where are the other elephants, for God’s sake?” a man said in the video.

According to the safari’s website, the elephant managed to fend off all 14 lions and was reunited with its herd.

“In the many years I have been a safari guide in Zambia at the South Luangwa, never have I seen anything like this,” said a safari tour guide. “We were all so worried the elephant would be killed right before us. What a fighter.”
