In the morning, Mayor Gregor Robertson was joined by former NDP premier and federal Liberal cabinet minister Ujjal Dosanjh, who announced his support for Vision Vancouver.

“I’ve been reading the newspapers and the internet…and I believe the election is too close to call, and I wanted to make sure my voice counted, and here I am,” he said in explaining his decision.

“I believe it’s important, I believe the NPA is not the old NPA…it used to be much more broad-based. It’s not good for the city.”

Later in the day, the NPA held a rally in east Vancouver for their supporters, with LaPointe joined by many of his council, school board and park candidates.

When asked about Dosanjh’s endorsement, he called him “a distinguished politician of yesteryear.”

“He hasn’t really had any impact on the municipal campaign, I haven’t heard him talk about municipal affairs in my time. I’ve collected a number of people that are supporting me, Gregor Robertson is going to have some people support him, but in the end, it’s up to the voters.”

The election takes place November 15.
