Second annual run to honour fallen Mountie takes place next week

It’s a time of year where fallen officers are on the minds of many, the Oliver family with a personal connection is taking concrete steps to make a difference.

Joe and Katherine Oliver’s son, Adrian, was a Surrey RCMP officer. He was killed on the job in 2012 when he unmarked cruiser was struck by a semi-trailer.

For the second straight year, they’re organizing a fundraiser run at Burnaby’s Deer Lake, which will take place on November 15. They’re hoping to raise over $13,000 for Honour House, a New Westminster organization that provides support for families of Canadian Forces and first responders when they or their families need support.

“When Adrian passed away, you’re so busy trying to recall the memories of ordinary events with that person…that you don’t have time to think about where these people will stay. Honour House just took care of all of that. We were able to focus on mourning,” said Katherine Oliver.
