Two kind ladies in our city made it their mission today, to make Lethbridge a happier place. With a box of gifts in hand, Melissa Luini and Rosie Digout took to downtown Lethbridge to spread good will on Random Act of Kindness Day.
From filling up parking meters, to giving away flowers, doughnuts, and Lethbridge Hurricanes tickets – the downtown core received a boost of morale from the two selfless ladies. Digout believes Random Act of Kindness Day is an excellent opportunity to show true community spirit.
“I think sometimes we get busy in our own lives, we forget to give back to the community. so it’s nice to have a reminder to maybe pay it forward a little bit.”
Luini just wants to bring some happiness to the public, saying:
“I’m just so happy I could do this for them.”
Joey Going has been instrumental in getting people involved in Random Act of Kindness day. Her work with the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta is what started “Kindness Cards”. The idea is that a person gives the card to a person after they perform a good deed, and from there the good will keeps being passed on.
It’s a program that’s gaining traction all over Southern Alberta. Over 80 organizations are involved, circulating over 10,000
kindness cards. Going believes the Foundation’s new contest could take Random Act of Kindness Day to a new level, saying:
“If people share what they did today, what their kind act was via Facebook, Twitter, or email with us. they’re name gets entered into a draw. and the draw is for a $500 grant into your favorite charity.”
