NPA releases donor list, collects $2.1 million so far this year

The Non-Partisan Association has released its list of donors for the 2014 municipal election, revealing that it has raised $2.1 million so far this campaign.

The numbers, which are accurate to November 4, come a day after Vision Vancouver announced their list of donors, revealing they have raised $2.2 million in 2014.

The NPA’s largest donation was $360,000 from the Great Canadian Railtour Company, which was founded by Peter Armstrong, former President of the NPA. A Peter Armstrong also donated $5,350 personally to the party.

NPA mayoral candidate Kirk Lapointe, who was sued by mayor Gregor Robertson yesterday, also donated $1,000.

After the release, Vision Vancouver criticized the NPA for not disclosing the identities behind 302 donations under $100, totalling nearly $14,000.

Unlike most large Canadian cities, there are no limits to the amount of money individuals, corporations and unions and donate to candidates. In addition, neither party is required to disclose donation amounts outside of election years.

The Green Party has raised $36,489 for its campaign, while COPE has raised $60,114.

The municipal election takes place November 15.
