HUMBOLDT, Sask. – Police say two dogs who were thought to have been abandoned by the side of a Saskatchewan highway last week were not really abandoned.

Humboldt RCMP received a complaint a woman had dropped the dogs off by the side of Highway 2 just north of the juncture with Highway 5 on the morning of Oct. 30 and then took off.

Further investigation found the dogs had not been abandoned; instead the pair had wandered away from their residence.

One dog, a shepherd mix, was located by Mounties and taken to the SPCA but the second dog was not found. It was later learned the second dog had returned home and the owner picked up the shepherd mix from the SPCA.

Humboldt RCMP believe the woman in the car may have been assisting or checking on the dogs due to their close proximity to the highway and the person making the complaint may have thought it was animal abandonment.
