RCMP pursuit ends in Evanston with residents told to stay indoors

CALGARY – RCMP are investigating the events leading up to a police pursuit on Wednesday night that started in Red Deer and ended in Calgary.

Investigators say it all started when two people stole a pickup truck in Red Deer.

The vehicle was reportedly used in a series of armed robberies, one of which was in Olds.

RCMP pursued the vehicle as it travelled south to Calgary, and eventually stopped in the community of Evanston in the city’s northwest.

Police say the suspects dumped the truck and took off on foot.

Residents were asked to remain indoors as officers searched for the suspects.

They were later apprehended with the help of a police dog and the HAWCS helicopter.

Officers say a gun was found near the area where the suspects were hiding.

Police escorted both men to the Airdrie RCMP detachment for processing.
