Homeowners in North Vancouver are on edge as they prepare to battle Mother Nature.

With clean-up efforts from Monday’s floods still ongoing, more heavy rain is in the forecast.

Resident Randy Winters is taking no chances. With another rainfall warning in effect, a makeshift barrier is the only thing between his basement and another torrent of water.

Down the street, Julie Taylor is using her child’s sand box to make homemade sandbags. She’s made just enough to make a low-lying entrance to her front door.

Concerns are heightened after major flooding swept through the North Shore Monday night, damaging dozens of homes. Several creeks jumped their banks, scattering lots of mud and debris.

With up to 70 mms of rain expected again tonight and into tomorrow, the District of North Vancouver says it’s prepared for the worst.

The city has crews on standby through the night and sandbags on trucks ready to go.

The fire department is also on alert and is warning residents to stay away from creeks and streams.
