TORONTO – Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says she’s not looking to force an election any time soon and declined to give a deadline for the minority Liberals to show they’re willing to work with the other parties.

Horwath, who is meeting with her new caucus for the first time since last week’s election, says she’s hoping Premier Dalton McGuinty understands he will have to govern differently under the new legislative reality.

The NDP and the Tories would be able to bring down the government if they chose, but despite a lack of co-operation from the Liberals so far Horwath says she wants to see how the parties behave when the legislature resumes.

Horwath also says she has commitments from all her 17 members that no one will cross the floor to give the Liberals a majority.

The party is also declining to nominate any of its members for the role of Speaker because that would mean any vote could end in an even split.

The Liberals won 53 seats in the election, just one short of a majority, which means that going into the next legislative session, every vote will count.
