Tropical Storm Vance forms in Pacific, likely to strike Mexico next week

Tropical Storm Vance will take a turn back towards Mexico next week. Global News

TORONTO – It’s been an active tropical storm season in the Pacific Ocean and nothing seems to be changing any time soon.

Tropical Storm Vance — the 20th named storm of the season — formed about 760 km south of Acapulco, Mexico on Thursday.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The storm isn’t moving very fast: just about 5 km/h to the west. It is expected to move to the southwest on Saturday and then turn toward the west-northwest.

As of Friday afternoon, the storm’s maximum sustained winds were 65 km/h. Vance is expected to strengthen into a hurricane by Sunday.

The good news is that the storm should weaken before it affects Mexico by Tuesday or Wednesday.
