Seattle Seahawks host high school football team following shooting

The Seattle Seahawks hosted the Marysville-Pilchuck High School football team Tuesday, less than a week after a tragic school shooting that left three students dead.

The high school team from Washington state practiced at the Seahawks’ facility and players were joined by pros like cornerback Richard Sherman, safety Earl Thomas and wide receiver Doug Baldwin.

“They seemed like for a moment in time they forgot what happened,” Sherman told The Associated Press.

Seahawks head coach Peter Carroll described the event as an “amazing experience.”

On Oct. 24, a 15-year-old freshman entered the Marysville-Pilchuck cafeteria with a handgun and opened fire, killing two students and wounding three others before turning the gun on himself.

“It was nice to just get away and have a little field trip and get their minds off the events that happened and practice football,” Brandon Carson, head coach of the Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks, told CBS News.

The Seahawks have also extended a practice invitation to Oak Harbor High School, a rival school, who decided to forfeit a title game allowing Marysville-Pilchuck to finish ahead of them and win the Wesco North Division title.

“I really want to thank the Seahawks for inviting us down here,” said Carson. “The kids were awestruck, and some of us coaches were.

“For them to extend an offer for them to invite us down here, it shows they care a lot about their community too.”
