TORONTO – Halton police have released the identity of a Burlington woman found dead in her apartment on Monday.
The body of 32-year-old Elizabeth Nugent was discovered after a man who barricaded himself inside the unit was arrested.
Malcolm Copeland, 41, of Markham has since been charged with second degree murder.
Police say they responded to reports of a verbal altercation inside one of the apartments at 478 Pearl Street around 10 a.m.
Authorities then found a man barricaded in the unit and told them he had a firearm.
The man was arrested following a lengthy negotiation which ended when the police tactical squad entered the apartment around 2 p.m.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 30.
