A bit of a scare at the Pasqua Hospital Tuesday evening.
A patient went into emergency with what health officials described as “flu-like symptoms that compared with Ebola virus symptoms.”
The Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region (RQHR) says language problems made it difficult to communicate with the person about their travel history, so the situation was treated as a suspected Ebola case. That means the Ebola protocol health care workers practiced last week was put into action.
Part of the standard response protocol is a police presence in case health officials need help evacuating, but that was not the case Tuesday.
They have since confirmed beyond any doubt that this is not Ebola. The patient has a confirmed case of the flu.
RQHR officials say the protocol was successful, and they were very pleased with everyone’s response.
RQHR officials are also reminding people that flu clinics are now open, and they say this heightened response is good reason to get your free shot.
