KELOWNA — A slate running in the municipal election says it’s time to “streamline” the Regional District of Central Okanagan.

In a release issued Tuesday, TaxpayerFirst says that with the incorporation of Lake Country and West Kelowna, much of the current functions of the Regional District are redundant.

It says Kelowna taxpayer’s pay the “lions share” of the cost of the Regional District of almost $11 million.

TaxpayersFirst says streamlining the Regional District could save Kelowna taxpayers as much as $5 million.

The group says staff affected by the streamlining would be “absorbed” by the other incorporated areas and the remaining two electoral areas — Central Okanagan East and Central Okanagan West — would remain under the Regional District’s umbrella.

TaxpayersFirst says the 10 acres and two RDCO buildings on KLO would be turned into a “village” that would include affordable housing and a community centre.
