TORONTO- A marathon campaign was stretched just a little bit longer as lines snaking out of polling stations postponed their closure – and the city’s publication of election results.
Toronto Elections Tweeted that results will be published at 8:10 p.m. to accommodate lineups, and that anyone in line at 8 p.m. will still be allowed to vote.
While many voiced their frustration at the wait, some said it could simply signal higher voter turnout: A record number of voters cast ballots in advance polls this year, according to the city.
At the Regent Park aquatic centre, voters posted photos to Twitter with a lineup extending out of the building; at least one person claimed there were about 75 people waiting at 8 p.m.
As the polls begin to close at 8 p.m. Global News will have complete coverage including a real-time election results for the mayor and councillor races, and a liveblog with the latest updates from reporters in the field.
