EDMONTON – Athabasca Oil confirms there was a short quarantine at a work camp southwest of Fort McMurray Monday, but health officials stress “there is no Ebola in Alberta.”

The company told Global News one of the contracted cleaning staff at the Hangingstone Project camp reported flu-like symptoms after a trip to South Africa.

Athabasca Oil took precautions, which included identifying people who had been in contact with the worker.

Alberta Health Services did not recommend the quarantine.  An AHS spokesperson said he believed the short quarantine was put in place by the employer as a precaution.

After speaking with AHS, it was determined that there was little to no risk, and a stand-down order was issued.

Athabasca Oil says the quarantine was lifted after a few hours.
