Crews battle mill fire in Maple Ridge

A mill building in Maple Ridge suffered extensive damage following a fire last night.

Fire crews responded to the blaze at Fraser Cedar Products Mill located on Lougheed Highway near 280th Street just before 10 p.m.

The fire was so large the Maple Ridge Fire Department needed the help of Mission firefighters and water tankers to extinguish the flames.

Investigators are expected to be back at the scene later today to determine a cause for the fire.

It is unknown at this time how production at the mill, which produces shakes and shingles, will be impacted by the damage.
