UPDATE: Langley RCMP have put together a composite sketch of one of the suspects in the violent attack on Oct. 18.
Previous story:
A Langley man says he was scared for his life when he was attacked with a hammer while trying to stop a robbery on Oct. 18.
William Yee walked into a 7-Eleven convenience store near 56th Avenue and 203 Street with his wife around 3 a.m. to get some late-night snacks.
He says they were about halfway down the block when he heard a woman screaming. She was being robbed at gunpoint by two men.
Yee says he walked right towards them to let them know they were not the only ones on the street.
“I did not expect what happened next,” he says.
One of the suspects pointed the gun at his head.
Yee says he immediately froze.

The man then threw a glass bottle in Yee’s direction, but missed.
He then allegedly told his friend to get “the thing” out of the car.
“That thing ended up being a hammer,” says Yee.
“They started playing pass with it and taunting me before one guy took a swing and hit my cheek.”
He then allegedly hit Yee in the head with the hammer and kicked him until he became unconscious.
Yee says he was hit with the hammer at least five times, and three of those hits were to his head.

The woman’s husband managed to call 911 and alert police.
The two men escaped in a newer silver car, possibly a Hyundai or a Toyota four-door.
Police say it is possible the vehicle had after market, newer style cuts in the fender.
Yee sustained a serious skull fracture and had to be taken to hospital.
“I really could not believe somebody was capable of doing that when there was no provocation,” he says. “Who hits somebody with a hammer? It is pretty unbelievable.”
He says he was terrified and thought he was going to die.
He ran into the woman he was trying to protect a few days later, and was greeted with tears and huge hugs.
“I was just doing my part as a good neighbour. I’d hope somebody would do the same for myself, my mother or my wife.”
Langley RCMP are now looking for witnesses of the attack.
One of the suspects is described as possibly of Philippine descent, medium skin complexion, 6’1″, mid to late 20s and approximately 200 pounds with athletic build, a bald and shaved head and a tattoo on his neck written in script. He was wearing black clothing, dress shoes, dress pants and a purse.
The other man is described as Caucasian, 5’10”, mid to late 20s, skinny and scrubby looking. He was wearing a hat and a white-and-red hoodie.
“We need to identify these two to proceed with charges and get two dangerous people off the streets,” says Cpl. Holly Marks with Coquitlam RCMP.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
