HALIFAX – A 25-year-old man charged with seven weapons-related offences after police found a gun on a bus in downtown Halifax Thursday appeared in court Friday.
Justin Crathorne was remanded to custody and will appear in court again on Nov. 6, when he is expected to enter a plea.
Officers responded to a report around 11 a.m. Thursday that a man had left a gun on a Halifax Transit bus and walked away southbound on Albemarle Street.
Shortly after that, police arrested Crathorne nearby on Argyle Street and recovered a gun on the bus.
He was charged with numerous offences including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
There was already a heavy police presence in downtown Halifax before the arrest as officers had been searching the area following an earlier report of a man walking around carrying a rifle under a cloth.
Police have since confirmed there is no connection between Crathorne’s arrest and the initial report.
The original incident is under investigation.
