NDP calls for health-care program to be scrapped after critical memo

REGINA – Saskatchewan’s Opposition says a multimillion-dollar program meant to reduce spending and streamline health care is marred by criticisms from health workers and needs to be scrapped.

NDP Leader Cam Broten has long argued that the Lean ignores concerns from front-line health workers.

The province is paying $40 million over four years for Lean consultants through a private company.

The NDP raised its latest concerns in the first question period of the legislature’s fall sitting, referring to a memo written by senior administrators who took part in Lean training.

The memo said lessons caused skepticism, alienation and frustration.

The government says its contract with John Black and Associates has saved money in health-care delivery.
