A crowd of people gathered at the National War Memorial in Ottawa, where a Canadian soldier was shot dead a day earlier, spontaneously broke out into a rendition of the country’s national anthem Thursday morning.
Members of Parliament also sung ‘O Canada’ in the House of Commons Thursday, as the country mourned the loss of Cpl. Nathan Cirillo.
The reservist from Hamilton, Ont. was gunned down at the base of the memorial Wednesday morning in what Prime Minister Stephen Harper is labeling a “terrorist” attack.
The words of Canada’s national anthem also rang out in the U.S. Wednesday night before the game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers at the CONSOL Energy Center.
The crowd sang along while the Canadian flag was projected onto the rink.

Here are the lyrics to Canada’s national anthem, in English:
O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command. With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free! From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
And here they are in French:
O Canada! Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!Car ton bras sait porter l’épée,
Il sait porter la croix!Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.
