Not everyone can say their memoir has been the number one paperback book in Canada for six weeks straight and an Academy Award-winning actress wants to portray you in the movie version, but Amanda Lindhout can. The award winning author and humanitarian was held hostage for 15 months in Somalia and survived endless torture and abuse from her captors. She survived the ordeal and has written a book about her experience. She drops by the red table at 7:15 to tell us how she’s managed to move on.

In just a few short years DJ/producer Ryan Hemsworth has emerged as one of Canada’s hottest beat-makers. We’ll squeeze in two extra guests Friday at 7:50! Two former Big Brother Canada contestants will drop by. Producers with the reality TV favourite are in Halifax holding auditions for the next season of Big Brother Canada.  We’ll hear first hand from Kyle Shore and Scott Bose (aka Contessa!) how to make the cut!

At 8:15 we’ll get a preview of the weekend’s edition of 16 x 9. This week Global’s investigative program will look at a B.C. Supreme Court ruling giving imprisoned mothers the constitutional right to care for their newborn babies. The decision comes from a lawsuit brought by two former inmates on behalf of all women incarcerated in the province. The suit centred around a program for the mothers of newborn that was cancelled in 2008.  The court ruled the B.C. government decision to cancel the program was unconstitutional. But the question remains, do babies born in jail belong with their moms?

And there will be a real island vibe to wrap up the week at 8:45  as Newfoundlander Paul Brothers talks to Cape Bretoner Keith Mullins about recording his new record “Island Sol” on the island nation of Cuba. Mullins is currently on tour throughout the Maritimes and will play us a tune from the new album as well.
